Potentially potent

Monday, January 29th, 2007

Lifehack.org has an interesting new post on boosting your potential. The article suggests that in order to really experience one’s potential, one should say yes more often. This makes a lot of practical sense. How many times do you capture yourself saying no to an invite or request? I find myself often resisting new experiences, partially out of laziness and partially out the fear of being uncomfortable.

This blog’s underlying concept is that human potential is limitless!!! If this is true and I’m trying to boost my own potential, one of the best ways is to challenge myself with new experiences. This weekend was a nice weekend, but not a productive one. I’ve been in a lull all day long, feeling tired and motivated, and a tad depressed. Instead of succumbing to this sad state, I will challenge myself. I will clean house as quickly as possible for an entire hour! That will get my home in better shape and it will get me off my bum.

Cluttered home = cluttered mind

I have had major issues with getting my apartment clean and organized. Procrastination is major factor. Since combining all my items with my husband and moving in together over a year ago, my home is still a mess. It’s been difficult making progress in the area of clutter.

Feng Shui makes a lot of sense to me. Clean home = calm mind. To me the home is a reflection of your life and state of mind. I’ve made some progress here and there, but it feels like I’m flailing around and not making the major change I crave. Also I feel really stumped in the area of making the home ours. A reflection of “us” as a couple.

I think the most important step in the process in going through the extra items and getting rid of all the clutter. Then, I need to tackle the organization process. It’s just every time I go into the office (our dumping ground) I feel overwhelmed and completely unmotivated. I have picked up Apartment Therapy, which has some wonderful ideas about caring for your home and making it really function on several levels. I want a nice home for not a lot of bucks. Anyhow, I will be following the 8 step home cure. This weekend I will be going through the evaluation process to really decide what I want my home to be. I will also walk through each room and determine what needs to be fixed, thrown away, and warmed up with some decorating style!
