Let’s get physical or …….something!

Thursday, January 25th, 2007

Like most people at this time of year, I’m starting to work on creating a more healthy lifestyle with better food and more exercise. For the exercise part, I’m working on training for the St. Louis ½ marathon. I attempted a full marathon a year and a half ago. I made it through about half of the training and a 12 mile run, so I figure I can definitely complete a half marathon. Training difficulties so far includes ice and snow. I enjoy running exclusively outside so the weather can be tricky sometimes. Last time I trained, I had to deal with the unbearable heat and humidity and ran into issues in finding the time to dedicate a couple hours a day to training. I’ve got my schedule set and I completed my first 4 mile run of the 12 week schedule last night. Considering I haven’t run that much mileage since about last August, it was a successful endeavor. And, I’m actually looking forward to my run tonight!

Ok, now onto the eating thing. I can be one of the worst eaters. I’ve developed a bad yo-yo dieting routine. I tend to put on 20lbs and then lose 20lbs. And currently I’m a good 30lbs over my ideal weight. To get my eating under control, I’m doing the one meal a day diet probably most like the Warrior Diet, with my own modifications. I’m on DAY 4 with no problems. Now I know to most eating once a day sounds like the most absurd thing ever. It goes against all modern day nutrition guidelines and recommendations, but I tend to go against the grain on some things. Below are the reasons why it works for me:

  1. I’m not constantly preoccupied with what I’m going to eat 3 times a day.
  2. After the first 2 days I easily transition into no food during the day. The hunger pangs subside and I feel damn good!
  3. Energy and alertness. I’ve have an alarming amount of energy throughout the day no ups and downs. I can focus on projects at hand sublimely.
  4. One good meal a day. I don’t skimp on my dinner meal. I eat what tastes good. On a normal diet you are preoccupied with calories and protein, blah blah blah. With this diet I eat tasty and calorie rich dinners. And the longer on this diet, your cravings turn towards healthy foods like salads and veggies.
  5. And lastly weight loss. I tend to lose .4 to 1 lb a day – depending on my dinner and exercise level for the day. So you get to the weight you need quickly.
  6. Lastly, this helps me really get my eating under control.

Lastly my diet consists of one Naked Juice a day. I really enjoy Green Machine the most. I get in all the greens for detoxing the body and it is yummy and filling. I weighed in on Monday and today I’m already 3lbs down. While I know it’s not all fat loss, it is still extremely encouraging.
